General description


A 4-day tent hike takes you through a mystical landscape. Passing giant senecia and lobelia, the trek leads to Wagagai Peak, the highest mountain in Mt Elgon NP. In the Murchison Falls NP you will experience the numerous wildlife of the park and the imposing Nile Falls on a boat tour. In the largest National Park in Uganda, the Queen Elizabeth, you will be able to observe elephants, Uganda kobs, warthogs, bushbuck in a savanna landscape. A special highlight are the tree lions in Ishasha. In the Kalinzu Forest you can watch the lively chimpanzees as they go about the trees. In the evening you will be there when the hippos of Lake Edward go on their nocturnal walk.

Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival (D)

After arrival in Entebbe, you will be transferred to your hotel in Kampala.
Overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Transfer from Kampala to Budadiri(B,L,D)

From Kampala the transfer to Budadari takes place to the starting point of the trekking. Budadiri is a small place with simple accommodation.

Day 3: Hike to Sasa Camp (2,900m) approx. 5-6 hrs. (B,L)

In a 5-6 hour hike, it first goes through cultural land steeply past some villages. Passing through a mighty cliff, the Maudangi Cliff. Two hours later, the Sasa River is crossed. Here grow some orchids. Then the Sasa River Camp (2,900 m) is reached.

Day 4: Hike to Mude Cave Camp (3500m) approx. 4 hours (B,L)

From the Sasa River, the path continues gently uphill through dense bamboo forest. As the trail progresses, it becomes steeper and requires some larger tree roots. After about 3 hours, the forest turns into open tree-heath landscape. After a 4-hour day hike, the Mude Cave Camp (3,500 m) is reached.

Day 5: Ascent of the Wagagai Peak (4321m) approx. 5-7 hrs. (B,L)

In a 5-7 hour hike the highest point of Mt. Elgon the Wagagai Peak (4,321 m) is climbed. From Mude Cave Camp, the trail first leads through moorland. After the mountain lake Jackson's Tarn has been passed, the Senezienbestände are becoming denser. A steep ascent leads to the crater rim and finally the highest point of the ascent. Then it's back to the Mude Cave Camp.

Day 6: Descent to Budadiri (5-7 hours) (B,L)

A 5-7 hour hike will take you back to the starting point of the trek at the Sasa River Camp in Budadiri.

Day 7: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP(B,L,D)

Today you drive past banana and tea plantations and through small villages to Murchison Falls NP.

Day 8: Imposing Nile falls and Game Drive (B,L,D)

On a boat trip the Nile upstream you will experience the rich world of waterfowl and, with a little luck, elephants and crocodiles.
In the afternoon you go for a game drive through the park to watch the animals of the savannah, such as the Rothschild girafe, the Uganda kobs or elephants.

Day 9: Nile downstream towards Lake Albert(B,L)

Today, in the opposite direction, the Nile goes downstream. On this boat tour is a good opportunity to see the very rare shoebill.

Day 10: Transfer to Queen Elisabeth NP(B,L,D)

We leave the Murchison Falls NP via Kasese.

Day 11: Community Walk and hippos (B,L,D)

The Ruboni Community organizes and supports projects for the local population and nature conservation. In the morning, with a 2-3 hour community walk, you will have the opportunity to get to know the activities of the community as well as the way of life and traditions of the people of Nyakalengija.
In the afternoon, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Edward. In the evening, the hippos leave the lake for food. You have the opportunity to observe how the hippos leave the lake and walk leisurely past you foraging for food.

Day 12: Chimpanzee-Trekking in Kalinzu Forest (B,L,D)

In the early morning you start in the direction of Queen Elisabeth NP. At the border of the park you have the possibility to observe savannah animals. With a little luck you will see buffalos, Uganda kobs, warthogs, elephants, waterbuck and many birds.
In the Kalinzu Forest you go in search of the chimpanzees accompanied by a ranger. Leopards, many primates and birds live in the dense forest. However, you rarely see them. Once you have arrived at the chimpanzees, you will have enough time to observe and photograph them in their hustle and bustle on the trees. On the way back you go along the edge of the forest through tea plantations. At the edge of the forest there are many birds. With a bit of luck, you will see a silver-checked hornbill, great blue turacos or black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Day 13: Kasese - Kampala (B,L,D)

Today ends your exciting journey. Your driver will take you to your hotel in Kampala. Overnight in a hotel

Day 14: Departure (B)

Your driver will take you to the airport in Entebbe in good time.
